Best Practices
Organization
Name compositions clearly:
Use descriptive names like "Product Demo V2" not "Composition 1"
Use tracks logically:
- Track 1: Main footage
- Track 2: Overlays/graphics
- Track 3: Effects
- Audio tracks below video tracks
Color code clips:
Use clip colors to identify content types (interviews, b-roll, graphics)
Performance
Close unused compositions:
Working on one composition at a time improves performance
Optimize clip length:
Trim unused portions of clips to reduce processing load
Export regularly:
Export drafts periodically to test output quality
Workflow
Plan before editing:
Sketch your video structure before adding clips
Use markers:
Add markers for important moments or edit points
Save versions:
Duplicate compositions for different versions (Director's Cut, etc.)
Troubleshooting
Playback is choppy
- Reduce preview quality
- Close other applications
- Zoom out on timeline
- Export to see final smooth result
Clips won't snap together
- Enable snapping (S key)
- Zoom in for finer control
- Use grid markers as guides
Audio out of sync
- Check clip hasn't been split incorrectly
- Verify FPS matches original content
- Re-import audio if needed
Export takes too long
- Reduce export quality
- Shorten composition duration
- Close background applications
- Check internet connection (for cloud exports)
Can't find my content
- Check Media Library filters
- Verify content was saved
- Refresh Media Library
- Check in original app (Photos, Videos, etc.)
